LOCAL 1056
Local 1056Mark Henry has been serving as the President and Business Agent of the Local
1056, which represents over 2000active maintenance, transportation and 800retired members
of MTA New York City Transit’s Queens Bus Division. Henry has served as the three term
president and lead negotiator on a team that achieved fair and just contracts for ATU Local
1056members in January 2018, October 2014and May 2012; the May 2012ground-breaking
decision has been studied and referenced in many arbitration college courses. Henry joined
the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1056more than 33years ago.
Henry’s current battle is negotiating a fair and just contract for his members which have been
on the front lines of the pandemic since March 2020. “Our members are deserving of “Wages
Increases” and “Hazard Pay” under the most hazardous and unknown conditions. We have
done our part, we have lost lives, we have been assaulted and we have kept the city alive,”
states Henry.
Henry chairs the NYS ATU Legislative Conference Board representing the ATU Locals around
the State of New York. He also serves as a board member of the ATU Internationals’ Laws
Committee, ATU Can Am Board, ATU Black Caucus Conference Boards. Henry is an Executive
Board Member of the NYC Central Labor Council, a member of the New York State Public
Employees Conference Board and a member of the MTA Coalition of Labor Unions. Member
of Queens Power a community-based Organization
Henry studied Psychology at City College of NY and Labor Studies at ATU International—
Tommy Douglas Conference Center in Silver Springs, Maryland.
