LOCAL 79
Local 79Anthony Williamson was born in Georgetown, Guyana on January 28, 1963. He
migrated to the USA in 1996where he resided in Brooklyn, NY. Williamson’s vision and goal
in mind was to broaden his career. He attended Cornell University where he pursued an advanced
certifi cate in Labor Studies. He joined the Laborers Union in 2000, a decision infl uenced
by a Coalition Group. Williamson spent a short time working as a laborer before being
hired by Local 79as an Organizer. In addition to his career advancement, Williamson was
appointed to Local 79’s Executive Board as an Auditor, a position he still possesses.
Williamson’s accomplishments include a Bachelor’s Degree in Labor Studies from the National
Labor College. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Urban Studies. Williamson was
appointed as Political Director of 100BCW.
Wiliamson has spent years working as a community activist, received multiple awards from
organizations and elected offi cials for his service to the labor movement and the community.
HIs many accomplishments would not have been possible had it not been for his exposure to
a union— Local 79.
