VINCENZA
RUSSO
PRESIDENT
ITALIAN AMERICAN WOMEN’S CENTER
Vincenza Russo has been serving as the President of the Italian American Women’s Center
for the past 33 years, with the goal of perpetuating and fostering the Italian culture, language,
and history. This has been her volunteer work, and a passion which has consumed her free
time and thoughts.
Russo’s other passion has been in helping to empower women. This has all been made
possible for her through the Italian American Women’s Center, Inc. When she joined the
Italian American Women’s Center, she knew that shaping this organization would make these
objectives possible. In 1987 with the inception of IAWC, she began as a member who was
added to the board and quickly made the secretary of the organization.
Not only was working as a volunteer enjoyable, but she was happy to help in developing
ideas for programs. These were talents which developed during her years of employment as
an office/project manager for a busy educational department for 34 years. These programs
are still provided today, as they meet for monthly meetings, go on local trips and hold a bimonthly
basis for the IAWC Book Club luncheon.
These events consist of informative programs about Italian culture, music, art, and literature.
They have established programs introducing new or veteran women (and men) writers, artists,
playwrights, actors, filmmakers, musicians, singers, teachers, and accomplished people
in all fields of work. Over the years, they have had large social engagements to bring the
Italian American community together and their Annual “Festa della Donna,” for International
Women’s Day of March 8 has become a huge success.
