TANER
YIGITER
PROPRIETOR
MAMA SUSHI
TanerYigiter has been in the restaurant industry for over 32years.
So when an opportunity arose to be a part of Mama Sushi, he says, he of course said yes.
“I have opened and operated restaurants in New York City, the Hamptons, West Palm Beach,
Scarsdale and Armonk,” he said.
Then, 17years ago, Yigiter said, he was offered the opportunity by a business partner, Ariel,
whom he had worked with in the past, to extend the Harlem location of Mama Sushi
(3569Broadway Avenue, New York) to the storefront next door.
“I had actually gotten another job offer,” said Yigiter. “But, working with someone as a great
team for 17years, Inaturally said yes to Ariel.”
Then, three years ago, the duo opened Mama Sushi in the Bronx, at 3478East Tremont Avenue.
“The community just kind of gave us a hug,” said Yigiter of the warm welcome they received
from the area, its leaders, residents and businesses.
Even during the pandemic— when indoor dining was kyboshed— Yigiter said, the restaurant
received a lot of support.
So to give back, they partner up with local shelters to help feed the less fortunate.
“Around Christmas, we fed about 250people, nearly a month later we gave 125meals to the
less fortunate,” said Yigiter, a married father of two. “We get great feedback from the community,
so we feel lucky to help out.”
