HALL OF FAME
Hon. Fiordaliza Rodriguez has been serving as a Judge at Family Court of the City of New York.
Currently, she has been handling child neglect/abuse cases, adoptions and all aspects of foster
care placement cases. She was born in the Dominican Republic and emigrated in the 1980’s to
join her parents in New York. She graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Judge Rodriguez has a Master of Science degree from the New School for Social Research
and a Juris Doctor degree from the City University of New York School of Law. While at CUNY,
she represented victims of domestic violence in Queens Family Court and she co-founded the
Main Street Student Legal Defense Fund.
Judge Rodriguez also served as Managing Editor of the New York City Law Review. She
began her legal career as a Special Assistant Corporation Counsel for the Administration for
Children’s Services. After that position, she was also a solo private practitioner, providing legal
representation in the area of Family Law, Divorce, Real Estate/Wills.
Throughout her legal career, Judge Rodriguez has been a very active leader in civic
organizations, such as the Dominican Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar
Association, to name a few.
For over 20 years, Judge Rodriguez has been involved in the area of family law and has
represented all sides in litigation: i.e., anagency, parents and children. She also had the honor
of being the First Referee of Dominican descent to be selected for that position.
In February 2015, Mayor Bill de Blasio made her dreams come true by appointing Judge
Rodriguez to Family Court. Judge Rodriguez is the Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee to
the Administrative Judge on Child Protective Issues, and the Co-Chair of the Bronx Family
Court Early Engagement Group. Judge Rodriguez lives in New York, with her husband--also a
lawyer, and their two children.
