STARS & WINGS INC.
Shemin Wilson has been serving as the proud founder of STARS & WINGS, a Women and
Girls Empowerment Program, that rose from her desire to show women and girls that their
collective strength is more powerful than the messages and environments that try to divide
them. From the start of her program, she has devoted countless hours volunteering at women
and family shelters throughout New York City.
The purpose of STARS & WINGS is to “Embrace, Encourage and Empower” adolescent girls
and women. The program enhances skill building techniques that include group facilitation,
leadership, communication, self-esteem, financial literacy and life application all while utilizing
faith based teaching tools to support personal development, spiritual growth, and promote
resiliency.
The acronym STARS is for Standing Tall and Respecting Self and focuses on adolescent girls
programming. WINGS is for Women in Need, Gaining Strength and provides training and
services to adult women. Through more than 15 years of working with non-profit organizations
in the Bronx to provide supportive services to individuals coping with traumatic life events,
Wilson has recognized the needs of her community and has developed programs to address
them.
She has been blessed to be the mother of two daughters, Erika and Ashley, and also a
proud grandmother to Jeremiah. Wilson was always taught to help other people and to treat
everyone with respect and dignity. Through her own life experiences, she has found a passion
to uplift and encourage other women, helping them to see the greatness within themselves.
Her belief has been that we as women can help, encourage, and uplift each other because we
are so much more alike than we are different.
