LeShan A. Gaulman is a native of the Bronx and obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree
from CUNY Lehman College in social work. He has been serving as the Chief Operating Offi -
cer of Barrier Free Living Inc., a New York City based not-for-profi t organization that provides
services to disabled victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Gaulman began his career working at a day treatment program for the mentally ill in the Bronx
20years ago and moved through the various positions within the human service sector, where
he helped hundreds of New Yorkers obtain services in their time of need.
In addition to the work that he does at Barrier Free Living Inc., Gaulman has presented at Social
Work conferences discussing issues related to homelessness and homeless and fatherhood.
In December 2015, he was awarded the Emerging Social Work Leadership Award by
the New York City Chapter of the National Association of Social Worker (NASW) for the work
that he had contributed to the fi eld. In 2017, the book Fatherhood in America: Social Work
Perspective on a Changing Society was published, where Gaulman contributed a chapter
entitled “Homeless Fathers”.
Gaulman has always loved to give back so he continued to provide direct care counseling
services to senior citizens and physically disabled members of New York City and lower Westchester
County. He has also lectured students at CUNY’s Lehman College in the Department
