DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
MOLLOY COLLEGE
Gioia Bales has been serving as the Dean of the School of Business at Molloy College. She
replaced Dr. Barbara Schmidt and Dean Kathy Maurer-Smith, who served as interim deans
from November of 2019 until Bales became the dean.
Bales was previously the Senior Associate Dean of the Frank G. Zarb School of Business
at Hofstra University since 2016, and also served in other administrative roles and held
faculty status during her career there. Prior to her time at Hofstra, Bales worked in the
Finance industry as a Senior Research Analyst at Salomon Brothers, and as a Senior Finance
Consultant at Merrill Lynch before becoming the Director of Graduate Business Career
Services and Administrator of the Merrill Lynch Center for International Financial Services and
Markets.
She received her M.B.A. from Hofstra University and her B.S. in Journalism and English from
Syracuse University. She is a resident of Locust Valley. She is a well-respected academic
administrator and a terrific addition to the School of Business.
Bales has been incredibly excited to begin the work of helping our students in the School
of Business pursue their studies and achieve their academic and career goals. And she has
looked forward to growing the School of Business and its offerings in new and valuable ways
to enhance the experience in our classrooms and beyond.
