Deborah Wright is the Political Director for United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural
Implement Workers, Region 9A. Prior to joining staff in April of 2019, Wright was President of
UAW Local 2325/The Association of Legal Aid Attorneys (ALAA) for 12years. Wright holds a
B.A. in Political Science from Douglass College, Rutgers University, and is a 1998graduate of
New York Law School. Wright began her legal career at The Legal Aid Society in the Manhattan
Criminal Defense Trial Offi ce. In 2005, Wright became the specialized mental health attorney
for the offi ce until she was elected President of ALAA in June 2007. In addition to member
representation and negotiating collective bargaining agreements, Wright is experienced in
lobbying for funding and legislation that furthers the interests of UAW members. She is committed
to social justice issues and still works closely with UAW committees, UAW locals, and
community groups. Wright is an appointed member of the NYS Permanent Commission on
Access to Justice and sits on the CT AFL–CIO Executive Board as well as the Board of Directors
for Citizen Action of New York. Wright also works closely with the Working Families Party
in New York and Connecticut. Wright volunteers her time to Cub Scout Pack 141and serves
as their Committee Chair. She is an elected member of the Middletown Township Board of
Education, as well as a Democratic Committeewoman in Monmouth County, New Jersey,
where she now resides with her husband Jim and eight-year-old son Ryan.
