Matthew Hopkins has been serving as a Managing Director for Vicus Partners and has closed
over 50 leasing transactions ranging from 500 to 50,000 square feet, and has prided himself
on representing tenants ranging from small maker/manufacturers and innovative startups to
large health care organizations
He was born and raised in Brooklyn as the son of a contractor and cultural leader; Hopkins
has brought a breadth of experience finding creative leasing solutions for a wide range of
businesses and has especially been passionate about projects involving arts and community
development, construction management, and adaptive reuse.
Hopkins has also been a co-founder of the Vicus’ Non-Profit Team, where he has been
committed to supporting the unique missions of NYC’s community-based organizations that
are often underrepresented in real estate. Prior to joining Vicus Partners, his career journey
spanned both the public and private sectors, most recently leading leasing as a VP at the
Brooklyn Navy Yard, working with affordable housing developer L&M, and as an NYC Urban
Fellow.
His path has reflected his vision of the city’s landscape as an inspiring canvas for
entrepreneurs and mission driven organizations. Hopkins earned his Bachelor’s degree in
Government from Georgetown University and Master’s Degrees in Urban Planning and Real
Estate Development from NYU and Columbia University. Hopkins was recently named a 2020
Crain’s Rising Star in Real Estate.
He has been residing in Prospect Heights with his wife and three daughters, has run a dozen
marathons and is a Board Member of Groundswell Community Mural Project.
