GERRI
COLON
COMMUNITY ADVOCATE
HALL OF FAME
Gerri Colon has been serving as a Community Advocate and was born and raised in the
Throggs Neck section of the Bronx. Colon is married and has a 20 year old daughter. She
attended Iona College and majored in Finance. She has spent her entire career, which
expanded over 25 years, in a Wall Street financial institution. Colon worked her way to
become Vice President of the securities middle office operations for her company.
Colon started her path to volunteer work while she was a student at Iona College. One of
her class assignments was to organize a project for a charitable organization. In 1990, she
chose a group located on Zerega Avenue in the Bronx called “Children Are Precious”. This
Youth Advocacy Group received $3,500 from the benefit Colon organized. The benefit was a
music show at the St. Raymond School Auditorium. While she spent 25 years at her place of
employment, she was able to continue participating in charitable events.
She organized many fundraisers to benefit many organizations, for example, Toys for Tots,
The NY Foundling, Throggs Neck Merchant Association, Throggs Neck Girls Softball League,
St. Frances de Chantal sports program and Salvation Army, among numerous others. Colon
has spent the last 31 years devoting her time to these events. Her selfless work has included
golf outings, dinner dances, card parties, street fairs, tree lightings, toy donations, etc.
Because of all of her devotion and hard work, she was able to raise approximately $500,000
over the course of 31 years. Colon plans to continue her fundraising efforts with numerous
existing and new organizations.
