The majority of the space is dedicated
to their tropical-colored living room — it’s
like stepping into a sunset.
“He is our design captain, usually,”
Guerrero said of Horenstein. “He took the
lead on things, and we agreed on colors.”
“I didn’t want it to look like the apartment
would normally look,” Horenstein
said. “Everybody has their couch and coffee
table and a desk and it’s kind of no
frills. So, it’s kind of a mish-mosh of everything.”
The focal point is a large beach sunset
tryptic with deep reds, oranges, yellows
and blues. The pops of color throughout
the room echo this painting: orange and
blue throws brighten up the beige couch,
and orange bowls with yellow napkins
decorate the dark wood table.
“We definitely wanted to bring some accent
colors in, because my whole life before
was always beige,” Horenstein said.
“Add things like trays and books that bring
in color. If you have something that’s very
neutral, you just add a pop of color, then
if your tastes change later in life, you can
discard them.”
Three ginger pink tropical flowers stand
tall in a bright orange vase in the center of
the table, on top of a runner printed with
similar flowers and tropical birds. They
looked so exotic, I had to ask if they were
real.
