JT Horenstein and Tony Guerrero
have a partnership fit for
the stage. They met by chance
through a mutual friend in
New York City and haven’t left
each other’s sides since. Both
dancers and choreographers
prominent in New York City’s theater
scene (and beyond), Horenstein and
Guerrero have built the perfect home
for themselves in Astoria — a creative
space for both relaxation and work.
Guerrero, originally from Texas, came
to New York in 2001 and moved around
from Hoboken to the Upper East Side
before finding his corner in Astoria.
“All these actors and dancers lived
over here. I just fell in love with it instantly,”
Guerrero said.
Raised in Northern California, Horenstein
moved to Manhattan after
graduating Northeastern University.
He bounced between Los Angeles and
New York before landing a permanent
position in LA that kept him there for
21 years. Not long after he returned to
the city, he met Guerrero.
The two got engaged four months
later and married at the local Ravel Hotel
in Long Island City in 2015.
“You’ll notice if you ever leave New
York and come back, your internal tempo
doesn’t match it anymore,” Horenstein
said. “The only way to really make it work
is to find your little nest like we did here.”
And Astoria fit perfectly. Once they
toured the apartment on 30th Avenue,
they were sold.
“It was a nice blank canvas for us to
bring in our things, all our ideas and all
of the different pieces for this new life

that we were starting together,” Horenstein
said. “So everything has some
emotional attachment or meaning, because
we really did start all over.”
The modest one-bedroom is colorful
and thoughtfully laid out, laced
with meaningful details from their
relationship. The spacious kitchen is
equipped with granite and stainless
steel appliances, ideal for hosting.
The couple love to cook and entertain,
hosting Thanksgiving and Hanukkah
dinners — Guerrero even whipped
up a jalapeño and cilantro-infused
pineapple cocktail for the interview!
Their “diplomas” from a cooking
course in Thailand hang above the
kitchen, and a message board covered
in photo booth pictures and spontaneous
love notes is displayed nearby.
