The Assassination Plot
The post-punk infused “alterna-core”
band The Assassination Plot's self-described
“noise rock” sound is fast and furious.
“I use three alternately tuned guitars
with weird and disturbing tunings and
heavy distortion and loop pedals,” lead
singer and guitar player Sam Rasiotis said
of his intricate on-stage instrumentation.
The band’s sound is reminiscent of the
experimental “no wave” scene of the late
‘80s; think early Sonic Youth, if they had a
horn section.
The Assassination Plot is a new project
for seasoned Astoria music scene players. It
was the musical brain child of Rasiotis (from

the now-defunct band Dirty Wings), and
it spawned from the crazy world we read
about and live in every day. The Assassination
Plot is an in-your-face reminder of how
the “new normal” in our society invades all
aspects our lives, psyche and music.
Rasiotis said that the music is inspired by
“the Trump era, war, Twitter storms, scandals
every day, police brutality, sexism,
racism, poverty, mass shootings — all the
things I hate and wanna scream about.”
The angst is palpable with their live performances
and they offer the audience an
opportunity to exorcise their demons.
The lineup includes “Ben Absurdo on
snarly bass and Keith Malonis on really
fast punk rock drums, and then a multi-in-

strumentalist, Dave Siegel, who plays sax,
keys and guitar,” Rasiotis said.
The Assassination Plot's musical goals for
2018 are as straightforward as their sound: “I’d
like it to get noisier and weirder,” Rasiotis said.
