Aviation
-August Martin was an
African American to attain
the rank of Captain with a
commercial airline, and the
first black airline pilot in the
United States. Honored by
named August Martin High
School near JFK Airport.
-Emory Malick was the first
African American to earn a
pilot’s license in the United
States (1912).
-Bessie Coleman first
African American female to
earn a pilot’s license (1921).
-Captain Patrice Clarke
Washington was the first
African American female airline
Captain in 1994.
-Captain Bobby Charles
Wilks was the first African
American Coast Guard aviator.
-General Benjamin O.
Davis, Jr. was the first African
American USAF Pilot.
-The Tuskegee Airmen is the
popular name of a group of the
all African American military
pilots (fighter and bomber)
who fought in World War II.
-Christina Hopper is the first
black female Fighter Pilot.
-Guion "Guy" Bluford, Jr.
a retired Colonel from the
United States Air Force and a
former NASA Astronaut.
