JFK receives The Lady of Loreto
Alitalia Gaetano Messina and Our Lady of the Skies Father Chris Piasta
with The Lady of Loreto statue.
AIRPORT VOICE, FEBRUARY 2020 29
Jubilee statue in JFK Chapel
The Lady of Loreto statue
arrived at JFK Airport into
the trusting hands of Father
Chris Piasta and Alitalia
Station Manager Gaetano
Messina who carried it to the
Our Lady of the Skies Chapel
in T4.
This is part of the Laurentan
Jubilee. This Jubilee
is also a “traveling Jubilee”.
One image of the Virgin will
touch the airports of the regions
of Italy another will
visit the military departments
and the other will travel to the
main airports of the five continents
(from Buenos Aires to
New York, from Toronto to the
main European capitals, from
Beirut to Manila and the Fiji
Islands). These travels will
represent the Mother’s embrace
of the whole world.
Archbishop Fabio Dal
Cin the papal delegate to the
shrine said, “it’s good news
because it’s not just about
members of the Air Force but
about all air travelers.”
For a century pilots and
travelers have prayed to the
Virgin Mary to keep them
safe while in the air. Marking
this milestone anniversary
of the declaration of
Our Lady of Loreto as the
patron saint of aviation and
aviators, earlier in 2019 Pope
Francis conceded a Lauretan
Jubilee for all air travelers.
Pope Francis has approved
adding the Dec. 10
feast of Our Lady of Loreto to
all calendars and liturgical
books for the celebration of
the Mass and the Liturgy of
the Hours.
The title Our Lady of
Loreto refers to the Holy
House of Loreto, the house
in which Mary was born,
and where the Annunciation
occurred
