Gov. Cuomo stops at
JFK enroute to Poland
Holds Jewish support press conference
Governor Cuomo held a
press briefing at JFK Airport
on January 27th before departing
to Poland with administration
officials to attend the official
commemoration of the 75th
anniversary of the liberation
of Nazi concentration and extermination
camp Auschwitz-
Birkenau.
The Governor strongly supports
all legislation to stop Hate
crimes including those against
Jewish communities. He spoke
to an audience of more than a
dozen death camp survivors,
most of them women in their
late 80s. saying “ “The people
of New York will never forget
the unspeakable Nazi atrocities
perpetrated against the
Jews, and by participating in
this ceremony on behalf of New
York State, I will stand tall in
honor of the six million Jewish
victims of the Shoah. This trip
will not only show our Jewish
brothers and sisters that the
family of New York stands with
them, I hope it will also raise
cultural awareness about the
horrors that the Jewish community
went through and how
America responded. “
An elderly gentleman with
a war cap sat in the audience
and was introduced as Alan,
one of the soldiers in Patton’s
army who helped liberate many
death camp survivors who were
being moved to certain death at
the conclusion of World War II.
In Poland, Cuomo announced
an international conference
will be held this May in
New York that will build on the
work the State has done to help
recover property stolen in the
course of Nazi prosecution.
