JFK ID Office back in Bldg.14
Faster, comfortable services
The JFK Airport ID and
badging office is back in Building
14 in the same location but entirely
different space. The new
office has been totally renovated
with service enhancements. These
faster services include the ability
to set up appointments online to
cut down the wait. Applications are
now done online as well making
both processes more efficient.
There are more processing stations
separated by walls insuring
privacy of the applicant, a couple
of large screens with appointment
names displayed, and extra stations
for processing. According to
JFK Security Manager Kim Dickie
all this was done to make it more
user friendly to the airport employees
to get SIDA badges required for
beyond security purposes. The facility
had been temporarily moved
to building 141 for several months
while the new facility was renovated.
There had been some hiccups
along the way with staffing
and software issues but according
the JFK Asst. Senior Security Coordinator
Bernadette Brown, all
these problems have been resolved
and the new process enables companies
wishing to hire and get staff
badged faster. All companies have
a person in charge of the ID process.
Formerly called Issuing Officer
the new name is now Signatory.

Big Boeing 777X
aircraft unveiled
More efficiency/environmentally friendly
The Boeing 777X had its first
test flight recently as another major
milestone for the 777X airplane
program begins the next critical
phase of testing towards certification
and then delivery to customers
in 2021.
The 777x is the latest series of
the long-range, wide-body, twinengine
777 family from Boeing replacing
the 747. The 777X features
new GE9X engines, new composite
wings with folding wingtips,
greater cabin width and seating
capacity, and newer technologies
from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
This 777X will be the world’s
largest and most efficient twin-engine
jet with new breakthroughs
in aerodynamics and engines,
as the 777X will deliver 10 percent
lower fuel use and emissions
and 10 percent lower operating
costs. This advance in aircraft
performance should mitigate the
criticism of nearby airport communities
over sound and health
concerns. The 777X-9 has 426 seats
and a 235 foot wingspan with folding
tips. JFK Airport is ready to
accommodate these large aircraft
with the recent expansion of the
taxiways and newly reconstructed
runway.

Corona virus. Cargo flights are
being cancelling flights out of China
due to the fears of the Corona virus.
Despite assurances from the CDC
that the virus is not transmitted by
touching non-animate items, there
is concern that the crew might be inadvertently
in contact with a person
with the virus. Lufthansa Cargo announced
a very restricted special
flight schedule for its freighter fleet
last week This unforeseen turn of
events will not upturn cargo revenue
after a slow international 2019.
Airports Council International
(ACI) released an advisory bulletin:
Transmission of Communicable Diseases.
ACI warns: “The recent novel
corona virus (2019-nCoV) outbreak is
of considerable concern to the aviation
industry.

The Port Authority security team
has warned all companies be careful
against cyber attacks following
the U.S. Iranian conflict flared up recently.
Now, Freight forwarder Toll
Group has shut down certain IT systems
after suffering a cyber attack.
This is not to say Iran was responsible,
but companies are encouraged to
meet with IT people and firm up defenses.
The Japan Post-owned company

measure, in response to a cyber
security incident recently, it had
deliberately shut down a number of

Warning. A prominent sign at
the entry of an air cargo association
warns not to discuss pricing during
their events. Good advice since former
Martina Air executive Ullings
was sentenced to 14 months in prison
and fined $20,000 after pleaded guilty
to conspiring with others to suppress
and eliminate competition by fixing
and coordinating certain surcharges,
including fuel surcharges, charged to
customers located in the US and elsewhere
for air cargo shipments. A total
of 22 airlines and 21 executives have
been charged, eight serving prison
time, in with more than $1.8bn in
criminal fines. Just saying.
