Academy of Mt.
St. Ursula holds
‘thank you’ event
On Thursday, September
19, the Academy
of Mount St. Ursula held
a ‘thank you’ event (on
site), to thank its generous
supporters in donating
more than $844,085,
to make capital improvements
for their building.
Improvements were
made over the summer:
• Replaced the roof in
the gymnasium. It was
completely removed and
replaced due to leaking.
The project was completed
before causing
extensive damage to the
gym fl oor.
• Replaced the windows
and blinds throughout
the building. This
much-needed improvement
will greatly improve
the insulation of
the building, create a
safer environment, reduce
energy loss, provide
more light to AMSU and
make its building look
great as well.
• New vending machines
added.
• Next, they will replace
their fi re alarm
systems, front door aluminum,
and brick façade/
rust.
Preston seniors
receive awards
Preston High School
announces that seniors
Emmalee Gomez and
Emily Mitchell have
been awarded Letters of
Commendation for their
performance on the 2018
PSAT/NMSQT by the
National Merit Scholarship
Program.
Out of the 1,500,000
students in the country
who took the test last
year, only 34,000 received
this award, putting these
students in the top 2%.
In addition, 16 Preston
students have been
named AP Scholars and
AP Scholars with Honors
for this year.
In order to qualify
as an AP Scholar or AP
Scholar with Honors,
students must receive
scores of 3 or higher on
three or more AP exams,
and an average score of
at least 3.25 on all AP exams
taken, and scores
of 3 or higher on four or
more of these exams.

the Poor bazaar
Little Sisters of the
Poor, 2999 Schurz Avenue,
will hold their
Annual Christmas
Bazaar on Saturday,
November 9, from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m.; and on
Sunday, November 10,
from noon to 2 p.m.
Included in the
day’s event will be
raffl es, jewelry, a variety
of gift items,
Craft items, homemade
baked goods,
good food, and much
