moves — even the fellow instructors who were
taking the class! Since you’re working out
new muscle groups and “pushing them to
failure,” as the instructors say, “because that’s
where your body changes,” it can be pretty
uncomfortable. My body parts were literally
shaking uncontrollably as I held certain positions.
But the instructors know how to support
clients through this discomfort.
“We want everyone to feel safe, because
the first class can be alarming,” Dusel-Foil
said. “Even if you’re like, ‘Oh my God, my
muscles feel crazy,’ you know we’re watching
you and you’re safe.”
“We know this feels crazy,” Kielty agreed. “I
tell our instructors to explain the discomfort
… it’s not pain, but it feels so intense. That’s
why we all take class from each other too —
first to support, but also because you can’t
teach what you don’t know how to feel in your
own body.”
That sense of support is important for
Benati and the Lagree NY group to cultivate
in multiple aspects — within their team of
trainers, their clients, and the Astoria community
at large. They often run cross-promotions
with business like QWNS Cafe, Lockwood
Style, Oak Point Health and Raising Astoria —
whose clients they offer a 10 percent discount
to, and also have a drop off ($10 per child) for
their noon class on Fridays.
Intro packages start at $32 for two classes,
and from then on it is $32 per class, six
classes for $180 or 10 classes for $295. They
also offer memberships like eight classes
per month for $220 or 12 classes per month
for $320. Unlimited for the month is $340.
