ANA Birthday
ANA celebrated it 30th Anniversary
operating out of JFK Airport. It began
to fly out of the Pan A Worldport and
now has it’s home in Terminal 7. Happy
returns to Ex. VP TWA Don Wright
who was at the helm of the origin and
still is an executive at the airline.
United Airlines
United Airlines, the only major U.S.
airline to own a flight school, will begin
accepting applications to train 5,000
new pilots by 2030, at least half of them
women and people of color. Backed by
scholarship commitments from United
Airlines and JPMorgan Chase, United
Aviate Academy will create opportunities
for thousands of students, including
women and people of color to pursue a career
as a commercial airline pilot. Sallie
Mae plans to offer private student loans
to eligible applicants will be turned away
solely because they can’t afford to enroll.
Brussels Air
Brussels Air has plans to return to
JFK sometime in June with a modified
flight schedule. They have announced
a new station n Canada as well following
a year long hiatus during the Covid
pandemic.
AerLIngus
Aer Lingus will commence a new
routes from Manchester Airport flying
to New York JFK beginning July 29th.
will be operated by the new singleaisle
Airbus A321LR, making Aer Lingus
the first airline to operate the aircraft
on regular scheduled services
between the UK and the US.
Southwest
Just ordered 100 737 Max jets to increase
capacity for expansion in 31 new
routes added to the airline’s leisure network.
Emirates Vaccines
Emirates’ fully vaccinated A380
flight, carrying close to 400 customers
recently made a journey across the different
emirates, to celebrate the UAE’s
progress in protecting its citizens and
residents from COVID-19 through a nationwide
vaccination drive.
The special flight EK2021 was unprecedented
in the industry in scale,
and illustrates travel confidence and
undiminished excitement for air travel.
All proceeds from the flight went to the
Emirates Airline Foundation, which
seeks to improve the lives of children
all over the world.
Norse Atlantic
Founder of Norwegian, Bjørn Kjos,
is eyeing taking another run at the
low-cost long-haul market. In partnership
with other investors and aviation
industry personnel, he is seeking to
launch Norse Atlantic Airways to fly
from Europe to the Americas as soon
as later this year using Boeing 787
Dreamliners.. However, Peter DeFazio,
urged Transportation Secretary Pete
Buttigieg to block Norse Atlantic Airways
from flying to the United States
because the founder of Norse was the
founder of now bankrupt Norwegian.
But CEO Bjørn Tore Larsen said , “We
have nothing to do with Norwegian
Air. We don’t see any reason why our
application should be rejected.”
NEOS ( New)
NEOS is an Italian airline that provides
service to popular holiday destinations.
It is rumored that it may begin
service out of New York in the near
future. It operates from its bases at Milan
Malpensa (MXP), Verona (VRN)
and Bologna (BLQ). Holiday destinations
include Canary Islands, Cape
Verde, China, Cuba, Dominican Republic,
Egypt, Jamaica, Kenya, Maldives,
Mexico and Spain. Seasonal
service adds destinations in Finland,
Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Myanmar,
Oman, Tanzania, Tunisia, and
Vietnam.
Buongiorno Emirates
Emirates announced today that it
would be resuming its service between
Milan Malpensa (MXP) and New York’s
JFK Airport. The UAE flag-carrier
will restart its successful fifth freedom
flight from June 1st, operating a Boeing
777-300ER. Flights will be operated
by the carrier’s Boeing 777-300ER. The
planes feature eight first class seats, 42
lie-flat business seats, and 304 seats in
economy.
Korean
Korean Air in November announced
it would spend 1.8 trillion
won ($1.59 billion) to become Asiana’s
top shareholder. Korean Air has just
submitted its post-merger integration
plan to Korea Development Bank,
and it provides a new timeline for the
merger:
Korean Air will acquire Asiana by
2022 and fully merge and integrate operations
by 2024
Aeroterm
A new multi-tenant 50,400
square-foot airside cargo facility
recently completed at Cincinnati/
Northern Kentucky
International Airport (CVG)
by developer Aeroterm, has
already 88% of it leased for integrators
and ground service
equipment maintenance, with
FedEx as the primary lessee.
Aeroterm is the airport development
subsidiary of Realterm,
a supply chain real estate developer
and operator. Aerotem has
many buildings at JFK Airport
and is concluding its agreement
with Port for a new building at
former WFS #260 site.
Flytrex drones
Israeli drone delivery startup
Flytrex says it has raised $8
million to help fund the expansion
of its U.S. operations. So
far, service is mostly a proof of
concept, with drones carrying
orders from a local Walmart, as
well as a Starbucks and a Japanese
restaurant in the same
strip mall, to several dozen
backyards in the area as well
as to a public pick-up spot in a
nearby field.
ANA drones
ANA HOLDINGS is working
to enhance innovation in
unmanned aerial vehicle technology
as well as find new applications
for drones. It is conducting
comprehensive trials
with the electrical fixed-wing
VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and
Landing) aircraft developed
by Wingcopter, with the aim of
building a drone delivery network
capable of serving needs
across Japan.
Cathay Cargo
Quarantine restrictions
in Hong Kong hit Cathay with
a 25% decrease in cargo in
March. Hong Kong has the most
restrictive quarantine measures
in the world for cargo.

Korean/Asiana
merger
Korean Air’s freighter fleet,
one of the largest in the world,
has been operating at maximum
levels since the pandemic
began and the airline repurposed
many grounded passenger
planes for cargo operations
to utilize their lower-deck and
cabin space, South Korea’s
Asiana Airlines announced today
that it had converted two
of its 13 Airbus A350-900s into
cargo planes as it looks to expand
its air freight business.
How their capabilities will
stay the same of change after
their planned merger in 2020
remains to be seen at JFK Airport.
