start-ups, will likely compete
for their share of the American
skies. Avelo has begun inexpensive
flights on the West Coast while it
is anticipated that Breeze will begin
operations on the East Coast
within weeks. Both top execs are
veteran airline individuals with
David Neeleman, founder of Jet-
Blue, for Breeze and Andrew Levy,
co-founder and President of Allegiant
Air and CFO United Airlines,
Both have targeted the leisure
traveler, offering no frills flights,
more convenient regional and less
crowded airports and low cost
fares with both starting up after
the worst air travel numbers in
decades. And they both had pseudonyms
for their airlines early in the
process: Xtra was Avelo and Moxie
was Breeze.
They have a lot in common.
As they begin on opposite sides
of the country their services will
compete with the larger legacy airlines
but as they expand their networks,
will they clash and begin a
price/service war that will leave
the last low-cost man standing?
