THALÍA SPANISH THEATRE
The borough’s only bilingual Latino venue, Thalía Spanish
Theatre is dedicated to promoting and preserving Hispanic
culture with unique productions of theatre, music and dance.
Founded in 1977 by Cuban actress/director Silvia Brito,
Thalía has presented more than 235 productions and won 231
recognitions, including a Mayor’s Award for Arts & Culture,
a NYS Governor’s Arts Award, two ENCORE Awards from
the Arts & Business Council, a Latin Grammy and many ACE
Awards (the equivalent to a Latin TONY).
Under the leadership of Artistic/Executive Director Angel Gil
Orrios since 2000, Thalia’s annual season features bilingual
premieres of plays by Hispanic authors, world premiere dance
musicals, original productions of folkloric Latin music and
dance, zarzuelas (Spanish operettas) and popular music by Latin
composers.
Inside scoop: Every June, Thalía presents a free outdoor festival
and free concerts, as well as bilingual performances for children,
low-cost bilingual theatre/dance workshops for children, acting
workshops for adults, and bilingual Tango dance workshops for
youth and seniors.

THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY THEATER
Since 2004, The Chocolate Factory Theater has been a show
space and incubator for experimental performance, annually
providing dozens of visiting artists with access to space and
technical equipment, creative residency periods, commissioning
funds, administrative support and artist fees.
In 2021, the OBIE- and Bessie-winning nonprofit moved to
a new permanent facility, a 7,500-square-foot industrial building
just north of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.
