THE NOGUCHI MUSEUM
Designed and founded by Isamu Noguchi, The Noguchi
Museum presents his sculptures, furniture designs, architectural
models, etc., in two floors of exhibition space with a serene
outdoor sculpture garden. It’s located across the street from
the namesake’s former studio, where he worked from the early
1960s. In 1974, he bought a 1920s industrial building across the
street and eventually converted it into his museum.
An international hub for Noguchi research and appreciation,
the museum also presents programming with artists across
disciplines to explore the enduring relevance of Noguchi’s work,
life and ideas in contemporary culture.
Inside scoop: The Noguchi Museum is free on the first Friday of
every month year-round.
Address: 9-01 33rd Road (at Vernon Boulevard), Long Island
City, and www.noguchi.org.
