NEW YORK HALL OF SCIENCE
The New York Hall of Science is the city’s premier science
and technology museum, as well as a global leader in STEM
education and a laboratory for new forms of learning.
Founded during the 1964 World’s Fair, NYSCI (as it’s
known) is recognized for its groundbreaking exhibitions,
innovative educational programs, youth development
and mentorship, professional development initiatives for
teachers, and events that draw children and adults into
hands-on STEM learning.
After a year of being closed to the public due to COVID-19,
NYSCI reopened its doors in July 2021, inviting visitors of all
ages to experience a new, revitalized space. Exhibit favorites
such as “Search for Life Beyond Earth,” “Wild Minds,” and
“Mathematica” have been updated and refreshed; and families
now enjoy the privacy of a nursing room connected to the
redesigned Preschool Place. Among the permanent exhibits are
the interactive “Connected Worlds,” “Design Lab,” and “Maker
Space.”
In 2021, the museum also presents a new exhibition, “The
Happiness Experiment,” which invites patrons to explore what
happiness means and how it shapes our lives. With healing,
hope and resilience in mind, “The Happiness Experiment”
enables visitors to journey through a series of playful, immersive
areas where they discover ways in which environmental and
social factors can affect emotions and well-being. It provides
opportunities for visitors to define happiness by recording their
own feedback and stories while engaging young people in the
exploration of habits that can affect their own mental well-being.
