Just about 50 years ago, at a 600
acre dairy farm in Bethel, New
York, 43 miles southwest of
Woodstock, an iconic myth of the
60s took place. The Woodstock Festival,
three days of peace and music,
captivated the hearts and minds of
more than 400,000 hippies. And
though there have been concerts
in the area to celebrate the event,
there has been nothing quite like
the original Woodstock.
Plans are being made for a 50th
anniversary celebration; however,
most travelers to this idyllic part of
the Catskills are visiting its jewel,
“The Emerson.”
Couples, families and one-time
hippies have fallen in love with the
setting. Nature itself is enough to
keep guests happy. The art-filled,
53 room, beautifully decorated
hotel is warm and wonderful with a
devoted, attentive staff determined
to make visitors at home. This is the
perfect place for weddings, family
reunions and just about any event
that brings people together. There
are hiking trails, nature walks, fly
fishing, a gym, a state-of-the-art spa
that offers body therapies, massages,
custom facials and beauty treatments.
There is of course skiing as
soon as the snow falls.
In addition, the pool is stunning
and there is ping pong and
North Shore Towers Investment Club Update
BY BUD BANK
The North Shore Towers Investment
Club held a working
brunch meeting in the
Towers on the Green Restaurant
on Sunday, July 14. Attendance
was the largest we’ve had in the
last 15 years. We were honored
to have Judy Lev, Senior Vice
President of Wealth Management
of Morgan Stanley, join us.
Judy spoke about the first half
performance: tariffs, interest rates,
politics and the outlook for the
balance of 2019. The discussion
on all these topics was very clear
and I felt I received an education
regarding how to invest in order for
my money to grow during the next
six months.
After the meeting, I spoke to
many who attended and they all
said the same thing: It was the
best meeting
that we have
held. I felt the
same. (Thank
you Judy!) As always, it was nice to
have good food and good company.
Our next meeting will be on
Tuesday, August 13, at 7:30 PM in
the Coleridge Lounge.
At this meeting there will be
a professional financial speaker
to discuss the past month and
what the future will bring. All
North Shore Tower residents are
welcome.

In addition, there are several

encountered. Not only can you see
the world’s largest Kaleidoscope
and a multi-media show with brilliant
images, but the collection of
Henry Bergseson Kaleidoscopes

delectable Woodnotes Grill where
the food is outstanding, you can

area is teaming with activities,
local breweries, art galleries and
antique shops.

CHECK THIS OUT: NST Chess Club is Looking for You
BY FRED CHERNOW
Many NST residents are
careful about exercising
their body – at the gym,
pool, or in various classes. And that
is a good thing. Are you interested
in stimulating your brain without
sweating or wearing special shoes?
The NST Chess Club has room for
additional members. Organized five
years ago by Richard Domash, the
group meets Thursday afternoons
at 12:30 P.M. in the Men’s Card
Room (next to the Country Club
Golf Pro Shop in the VIP Room).
All are welcome: men, women and
teens. You may not have played
chess in decades or you may have
never played. Perhaps you are a
good player who would like some
fun playing with an evenly matched
resident. Now you can.
This fun game is known the
world over for its maneuvering
and strategy planning. It’s hugely
popular and has been for over 2,000
years and the fascination seems to
grow on a daily basis.
If you are a parent or grandparent,
you can learn the game and pass
the basics on to the next generation
in your family. What a wonderful
legacy you will leave them! Richard
will team you up with another fan
of chess or help you learn the basic
moves of the game. He remembers
Rear l-r: Joe Vass; David Kossover
Front l-r: Rocco Lamanna;
Richard Domash
watching his parents play. At age 6
his father taught him chess and he
is now ready to teach you.
See you Thursday at 12:30 P.M.
in the Men’s Card Room.
