Babes & Guys Fundraiser
Raises Big Bucks!
in value,” Irma said, and none
of them would disappoint. The
goodies included massages and
mani-pedis, golf and tennis lessons,
and gift certificates from
some nearby restaurants “many
of which generously donated
upwards of $100,” Irma said.
Congrats to everyone who snagged
a bag!
In the meantime, there was the
golf tournament, card room and
Towers on the Green to be taken
care of. Bob Guido, head of NST’s
golf club, oversaw the tournament,
which teed off at 9am. He and
the golf club donated the use of
all the golf carts for the event, in
which the 84 players broke into
21 foursomes. Cards and games
began at 10am with Jerry Rubin
in charge of making sure that the
large card room was all set up with
the necessary equipment for the
130 canasta, bridge and Mahjong
players.
Fortunately, the golf and games
gave Mary Anne Langone and
Jessica Buffolino of the Towers
Country Club staff enough time
to put the finishing touches to
Towers on the Green. “Volunteers
started getting the room ready
the day before,” Irma said, “and
Mary Anne was there from the
very beginning to the very end.
She’s phenomenal, and Jessica
is wonderful.” The room looked
beautiful, festooned in pink and
white, with each place set with a
program acknowledging everyone
who gave so generously.
Approximately 225 people
attended the luncheon, each paying
$85 toward the cause. Their
contributions went even farther
thanks to the generosity of Honey
Mann, who sponsored the entire
meal so that all of the luncheon
proceeds could go to the charity.
Other donations really added up
as well: the “Tree of Life” leaves,
which cost just $10 a piece, have
the name of a loved one on them,
and in total they raised nearly
$3,000—that’s a lot of leaves!
Many other donors were listed in
the event program, each having
contributed at least $100, “and
Let’s not forget the guys! Thanks guys!
some donating well into the four
figures,” Irma said. The raffles
collected between $4,000 and
$5,000, and the sponsored golf
holes brought in approximately
another $1,000. Still other residents
didn’t attend the luncheon
but wanted to donate anyway and
kindly left their contribution at
their concierge’s desk.
All told, at press time, NST’s
2019 Babes & Guys fundraiser
amassed nearly $44,000, and
donations were still coming in.
That’s an impressive contribution
to the Babes Against Cancer organization,
which includes some 40
golf and country clubs across Long
Island and of which North Shore
Towers is very proudly a part.
“Everybody works together on
this to make it happen,” Irma said.
“I can’t thank everyone enough.”
