President's Message
Many exciting things have been
happening to enhance the image of
North Shore Towers. Some actions
have been completely motivated
by our residents and others by the
Board of Directors. The recently
held North Shore Towers Annual
Babes and Guys Against Cancer
was a successful heart-warming
activity. Under the leadership of
Irma Marcus and about 40 resident
volunteers, we raised well over
$40,000 for this worthy charity.
The luncheon was excellent and
the raffle segment enthusiastically
involved the capacity crowd. We
have to thank the committee members
who induced 40 store owners
to donate gifts. It was a fun day
and we should be proud of NST’s
donation to such a worthy charity.
The Board's decision to make
tennis free to all club members
has completely rejuvenated the
program. It is a pleasure to see all 5
courts occupied every morning and
great satisfaction to offer another
amenity free to our club members.
The new Art Studio is also free
to all residents. The studio is now
completely furnished and we just
added weekend hours so the studio
is open 7 days a week. Now our
residents who work full time are
able to utilize the studio. Thanks
go to Karen Perry for her plans and
organizational skills that make the
studio run efficiently. See the article
below for a further update.
All residents have been offered
the opportunity to apply for a Board
Committee. When the forms reach
the chairperson of each committee,
they will be evaluated by the Board
member. Finally, notification of
committee members who are selected
will be made by the chairperson,
who will then call the first meeting.
Several residents have attempted
to organize the new Pickleball
court. The Board has just placed
the sport under the leadership of
Ed Phelan, chairman of the Country
Club. In this way, lessons and time
Bob Ricken
schedules will be advertised, as are
all athletic amenities.
Sincerely, Bob Ricken

Weissman For the past two
months, the newly
refurbished Art Studio
has been available to
our residents. It is located
on the Arcade Level of
Building Two, next to the
library. Many have enjoyed
the free use of this
facility.
The studio has been
termed "a dream environment"
and "a welcome
oasis" by artists Herb Zaller
and Pearl Strauber, respectively.
The physical plant
of this community amenity
has received rave reviews.
Painter Ellen Lane summarizes,
"The new studio with
its terrific lighting and new,
state-of-the-art furnishings
is an ideal place to work."
The studio features ease
of use. Anita Stein comments
on "...the lockers,
which enable me to store
some of my materials."
Artist Lesley enjoys "...the broad
and flexible hours which allow me
to work when I want."
Creatives of many media are at
home in the new Art Studio. In
addition to working
in paint, ink
and charcoal, we
have Sylvia Landau
making jewelry and
fantasy dolls and
figurines. Cathy
Kotowski fashions
paper money into
her unique greeting
cards. Some
members of the
Charity Knitting
and Crocheting Club
assemble blankets
there.
There is also an
important social
service performed by
the Art Studio. Artist
Norm Kaufman
points out, "The studio
provides a place
where people can
meet and interact
with each other." In
addition to meeting
fellow creatives,
Anita Stein enjoys
"...greeting our many
visitors."
Sylvia Landau
sums up our new
Art Studio best. "Having uninterrupted
time to create and craft is a
luxury come true." All residents are
welcome to use the new NST Art
Studio, so come and enjoy!
North Shore Towers Mitzvah
Project - Camp Kehilla
Dear Family, Friends, and
Residents,
A group of Towers residents
recently visited UJA-Federation’s
beautiful Henry Kaufmann
Campgrounds. The Campgrounds
house day camps for our local
Jewish Community Centers and
are the summer home to thousands
of children. Many of the
children who attend these day
camps are from low-income
families and some have special
needs and serious illnesses.
The Towers group was particularly
moved by Camp Kehilla,
a camp dedicated to helping
children with special needs. The
camp is run by Sid Jacobson JCC,
a UJA partner, and has activities
tailored to youth and young
adults with a variety of special
needs. The loving staff has a core
focus on building social skills,
friendships, independence, and
self-esteem.
As part of the North Shore
Towers 40th Annual Charity
Bash, we kindly request you make
a special donation to the North
Shore Towers Mitzvah Project –
Camp Kehilla.
With your generous help, we
can bring joy to children and families
and help give them a special
summer. You can donate online,
or by mail. If donating by mail,
please make checks payable to
UJA-Federation of NY and put
Camp Kehilla in the memo. Send
a check to:
