Appalachicola by John Wakeford Francis—An oysterman’s daughter returns home to Florida’s Forgotten Coast after her final tour of duty in Afghanistan. Concerned by her father’s failing health and her brother’s depression, she delays a promising job opportunity to get her family back on their feet. In the process, she rediscovers herself, her family, and the coastal community she grew up in. 2. Stuck in Mute by Shane Muewissen—A young woman’s “Selective Mutism” disorder causes her to live in isolation. It’s not until making unlikely friends with a young boy that she begins to realize that every word counts. 3. For Better, For Worse by Tal Greenberg—Through the stories of three couples in different phases of their lives in the hospital on the same day, the film examines the boundary between love and dependence, between habit and choice, and asks, “In relationships, what is true love?” 4. Chile Fields by Rhonda Grey—Fleeing her abusive father, a young woman crashes in a chile field and learns how damaging her own anger can be and whether she can forgive her dad through the humble family that works the land. 5. Dad in Mum by Fabrice Bracq—In the middle of the night, moans are heard behind their parents’ door and two young sisters are asking questions… returns September 13 and 29 with these wonderful short films… THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 1. Class Mate by Javier Marco—A man and a woman meet on a bus. She’s an engineer and she’s married. He’s homeless. 2. Big Boy by Yuri Solodov—In order for a 6-year-old boy to receive his birthday present, he must prove he’s grown up by completing a mission: a first-ever trip to the store alone to buy bread. Will he pass the test? 3. Heat Wave by Lucía Valverde—Europe and its clichés are brought to the fore in this delightful comedy about a German/ Spanish couple living in Luxembourg and the first Father-in-Law’s visit during a heat wave. 4. A Song of Water by Juan José Castillejo— Despite her mother’s best efforts, a young girl who lost her father in a tragic fishing accident, stubbornly takes to the sea. 5.
