16 North Shore Towers Courier n August 2016 TENNIS EVENTS JULY 2016 BY LEO TUJAK Sunday, July 3rd., the Tennis Association held its Independence Day tournament. Our tennis pro, Rick Bates, once again themed it on politics, though no sides were taken. There were two teams: “Lettered” and “numbered,” and the teams were not aware of which party/candidate they represented. There were six rounds of tennis played, and the winners with the best record 4-0 were allotted the largest electoral vote states. The numerical scores were: 244 for Lettered and 226 for Numbered; for the electoral votes: 77 for Lettered and 10 for Numbered. Clinton was declared the winner. Congratulations to the lettered team winners: Len Santner, Barney Masnick, Carol Meyerson, Annelis Karp, Bob Ricken, Isaac Taitz, Ted Schoenhaus, Fred Waxenberg, Jerry Grossman, Marilyn Salzman, Lois Carus, Carol Grossman, Leo Tujak and Mona Rosenberg. This was followed by a BBQ on the patio of the VIP room. Attended by more than 70 guests, it was enjoyed by all. The Tennis Board and Association would like to thank the VIP room and Reina, the country club and tennis staff—Mary Anne, Cecilia, Allison, Rick, Jackie and Mel—for all their assistance in making both events run so pleasurably and smoothly. We couldn’t do it without you guys. The annual Pot Luck Dinner to benefit the American Cancer Society was held by the Tennis association in the VIP Room on Thursday, July 14th. More than 50 members and their guests attended, each donating $25 and providing food or drink for 8 persons. We raised $1300 for American Cancer from the affair and will be donating $1500 to the ACS. The NST Tennis Board and its members would like to thank the country club staff for their assistance, especially Mary Anne Langone, Dude, Allison Gochman and Cecilia Farfan, without whose assistance the dinner would not have gone off so smoothly and well.
