Towers on the Green the
morning of Wednesday,
May 24, to learn more about how
they can stay healthy and happy in
their golden years.
Star Network’s Queens Senior
Health & Financial Fitness Expo
brought home and health care,
insurance, financial planning and
law professionals and older residents
together for a morning of
information and engagement.
Vendors at the event spoke of
the importance of being at there to
speak one-on-one with older adults
in the community.
“We wanted to reach our senior
members,” a representative for
NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens
said. “We wanted to let them know
about the access to care they have
and the access they can have to our
top-tier doctors.”
“Our goal is to educate patients
about hearing loss and increase the
awareness,” said Patricia Salamone,
Doctor of Audiology at Advanced
Hearing Center. “Showing patients
that there is a solution if they are
experiencing hearing loss is important
to us.”
“When we come to events like
these, it’s to inform the people
in the community about the services
that are available to them,”
said Robert Sabella, Marketing
Outreach Associate at the Parker
Jewish Institute. “What I find
when going to senior centers is
that seniors have an interest, but
they don’t have access. So coming
to an event like this, they can talk
directly to the people who represent
these companies and maybe find
out something they might not have
known earlier.”
Senior attendee Elna Tullock,
who has attended previous Senior
Health & Financial Fitness Expos,
said she hopes her peers take advantage
of the wealth of information at
their fingertips.
“Information brought me here
today,” Tullock said. “Whenever I
leave here, I take extra copies and
I share with my neighbors and
colleagues. I have a folder where I
put them all and I hand them out
during my daily routine.”
“The event is good for people
who are looking to the future,”
senior Claire Nagel said. “Many of
the seniors come away with goodies
and information.”
After time gathering information
at individual vendor booths, senior
assembled to listen to a panel of
speakers discuss about a diverse
set of topics that affect older adults.
Keynote speaker Dr. Libi Galmer,
Attending Orthopedist with
NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens,
spoke of the importance of staying
active over the years and the recent
advances in physical medicine and
rehabilitation.
Other speakers at the event
included Elder Law Attorney
Ronald Fatoullah, Christine
Feingold with Sinai Chaples, Robert
Sabella representing the Parker
Jewish Institute, Roberta Lulov of
SARA Companion Services and
Dr. David Lichester from AgeWell
New York.
