 Regardless of the vote, the
 results of this year’s elections
 promised some new blood
on the Board of Directors due to
 several factors. Last year’s unfortunate
 passing of former Board
 President Mort Gitter opened an
 additional spot—albeit for a single
 year term—to the usual annual
quartet of places to fill. Adding
 to that veteran member Felice
 Hannah’s unexpected non-participation
 reducing the number of
incumbents to four, ensured that at
least one of the two fledgling candidates
of the total of six running
would gain one of the five open
 spots. Newcomer Warren Glenn
 received that honor capturing
fifth place in the vote tally and the
1-year term. He will join returning
 Steve Redlich, Bob Ricken, Phyllis
 Goldstein and Stanley Goldsmith,
who won a full 2-year term after
finishing out the initial year of
 Gitter’s term.
 The Tuesday following the election,
  the newly elected Board got
down to business, meeting for the
first time to vote on offices. Mario
Carmiciano was elected to remain as
president, with Chernow as 1st Vice
President and Redlich as 2nd Vice
 President. Redlich will also retain
 his position as Treasurer. Goldsmith
has taken up the mantle of Board
 Secretary. Committee Chairs will be
 determined at a later date.

 STORY AND PHOTO
 BY STEPHEN VRATTOS
 When Women’s Golf
 Association President
 Judy Lev was passed
 the gavel from her predecessor,
Teri Oropallo, at last year’s end of
season dinner, it marked her debut
at the helm of the distinguished
position. But when it came to
 one of the association’s biggest,
 most important events, Lev was
 a seasoned veteran. “I’ve been
 intimately involved with ‘Babes &
Guys’ for the past three years,” she
 revealed.
Three years ago, Lev chaired the
event, which has been raising money
 for the American Cancer Society
 since the ’80s, and immediately
made an impact with her decision
to open the event to the entire
 North Shore Towers community,
 not just Country Club members.
To Lev, it made little sense, astutely
 observing, “Everyone’s
 been touched in some
 way by cancer.” Under
 Lev’s chairmanship, the
 event raised more than
 $28,000, a dramatic
 leap from the $1000 it
 garnered in its inaugural
 year. In fact, the annual
 tradition has raised more
 than $100,000 in the past
 three years alone.
 “Our goal is to raise
 more money than the
 year before,” Lev said,
 and there are many
ways you can be a part
 of the fun, whether you
 play golf or not. “There’s
 always playing cards…
 or the luncheon.” Other ways
include sponsoring a hole or a
lift, dedicating a leaf to the “Tree
of Life” or purchasing a chance to
win a day of golf at a prestigious
Long Island club or other top-tier
prizes in the “Land on the Green”
For a mere $10, you can dedicate a leaf to
“The Giving Tree,” which stands outside the
 Country Club entrance
contest. Or you could simply make
a donation. Leave your check for
$25 or more, made out to the
 “American Cancer Society,” at the
 Country Club reception desk and
help in the fight against cancer. “I’m
 committed to it,” Lev said.
