On May 21, a Meet-and-
Greet clinic was held
at the tennis courts for
any resident interested in tennis.
About 50 people showed up to get
either information or instruction
on tennis play. Our pro, Rick
Bates, conducted the clinic, ably
assisted—as always—by his wife,
Jackie. Afterward, refreshments
were served.
I’m happy to report we have a
number of new players this year,
some of whom are returning to
tennis after not playing for a while.
However, I’m sorry to note several
members will be unable to play
this year due to injuries or health
reasons.
On Sunday, May 28, our first
tournament was held. As usual,
the format put together by the Pro
Rick Bates was understood by few,
but fun to play by all. It pitted the
Kings (men) against the Queens

(women). The first session had the
Kings winning 212 to 188. The second
session resulted in the Kings
again overcoming the Queens by
a score of 10–6.
After the tournament ended,
we repaired to the VIP Room
for a luncheon, expertly catered
by Reina. It was going to be held
on the patio, but the weather was
neither helpful, nor consistent,
changing from “too cool and
windy” to “yes, we should,” then
back to “everyone return inside.”
We would like to give a special
thanks to the staff, who initially set
up outside and then had to move
everything inside. About forty people
attended, and seemed to enjoy
the food and company.
The Tennis Association would
like to thank the VIP Room
and staff, Reina, Country Club
Manager Mary Anne Langone,
Cecilia Farfan, Tennis Pro Rick
Bates and wife Jackie. Without
these people, none of this could
occur. Thanks again!
Our next scheduled tournament
will be held on July 2. If you're
interested in playing tennis,
please stop by the courts or go to
the Country Club desk for more
information and pricing. I will be
glad to answer any questions I can
at leotxrx@gmail.com.
