Get Your "Rake" On at Astoria Park:
Astoria Park hosts three "Leaf Fests"
each November where community
members can volunteer their time
raking and collecting leaves that will
be turned into compost for the park.
Taking place Saturdays, Nov. 3, 10 and
17 from 10 a.m. to noon, gloves, tools,
training, cider, coffee and/or treats
will be provided. All you have to do
is come in closed-toed shoes, ready
to rake! More info can be found at

Donate Blood:
Though it can be done year-round, donating
blood is another great way to give back while we're
in the spirit this season. One donation can help our
community hospitals save up to three lives. Eligibility
criteria includes: ID with signature or Donor card;
ages 17 to 75; minimum weight of 110 pounds;
eat well (low fat), drink fl uids; no tattoos for past 12
months. For questions concerning medical eligibility
call the New York Blood Center at 800-688-0900,
or one of the participating local blood drives below:
