2 AIRPORT VOICE, OCTOBER 2021
BY JEFF YAPALATER
VP Mark Flug of Cathay Pacific presided
over the October Kaamco meeting zoom call.
He referenced the IATA position on the lifted
restrictions by the U.S. on international air
travel beginning on November 8th and recommended
that airlines be aware for this
change in their operations and of the rules
and new regulations.
API Erika Cianciulli, Exec. Dir. Industry
Relations of Accommodations Plus International
(API) gave a presentation of the new
DAX program. This is their first consumer program.
It is designed to work with the airlines
and their passengers who have experienced
a delay of some kind and need hotel space
According to Erica, API offer a state of the
art disrupt management platform that leverages
an array of booking channels to provide
rooms in real-time directly to disrupt passengers.
This system, paired with our 24/7/365
Operations Team and our mobile platform,
creates a truly connected passenger experience.
API is headquartered in NY and has
offices around the world to assist in their traditional
crew and now passenger needs. For

Ground Ops Chair Julie Emond of Air
France recapped the Sept 16th meeting that
highlighted the issues of airside driving. She
thanked JFKIAT for their safety and procedures
presentation on the subject, which T4
has had in place for sometime.
Emond also had a discussion on new signage,
what other terminals are doing and how
the Port is involved. On the Interline side of
things, she reached out calling for all airlines
to provide BSM data. There is and will be an
increase in baggage handling as international
ravel restrictions are lifted and this BSM info
is critical to a smooth chain of activities. The
next meeting is Oct 21, 11am.
Phil Jensen of WFS gave a good overview
of the cargo volume problems JFK is facing.
He said that in addition to current customers
ad hoc freighters are seeking to bring
goods into an already overcrowded airport.
JFK is receiving truck flights fro other airports
since they too are overwhelmed by the volume,
which is overwhelming due to shortage
of space, workers, truckers and off site warehouses
also to capacity. He reported that this
information is discussed on the DACC calls
which he says are an important communication
hub tool from the Port.
There is a need for short-term space for
staging, breakdowns and warehousing as the
existing facilities are filled. With the beginning
of the holiday gift and mail season, snow
and weather problems, a solution has to be
found to mitigate the current and short-term
congestion. He reported that there have been
conversations with the Port and looking for
ways to mitigate the conditions and trucking
delays and is hopeful for a workable solution
after Deputy General manager Teresa Rizzuto
visited facilities to see the physical problems
that the cargo companies are facing.
Jensen floated the idea that perhaps
Stewart international Airport be temporarily
used as a back up until the supplychain issue
is sorted out.
Landing rights, issuance of proper SIDA
badging, 100% screening and lack of canine
resources are also adding to the problem he
stated. The next Kaamco meeting is November
10.
