It was amazing, magical and entertaining. “I am a passionate collector of memorabilia that represent certain times and places of my life. As a songwriter, it is very inspirational to certain songs that I compose. The 1964 World’s Fair brings back such wonderful images and memorable fun. The Ford pavilion was fantastic — getting a chance to sit in a Mustang car and go on a tour where you saw dinosaurs, cavemen and futuristic cities. I wanted to write a song about the World’s Fair to capture my personal memories, so listeners would relate to the story set to music. As a collector of pop culture and nostalgic TV items, I enjoy the time they represent and all the fun you remember.” Jeff Michael “My family attended 1964 World’s Fair and I have two big memories: the Belgian waffles and the Parker Pen area. Parker Pen gave me the name and address of a young man near my age living in Europe and we corresponded for several years before it gradually ended. But about 20 years later I wrote to Parker Pen and thanked them for giving me that experience. To my great surprise, they wrote back and sent me two Parker pens from the World’s Fair. For that kindness, I would like to thank them.” Margaret Hayward Jeff Michael poses in front of one of his favorite Fair collectables, an original World’s Fair flag. Photo courtesy of Jeff Michael
