This current position represents nearly half of Carole’s 54 years of dedicated service in the New York City Department of Education. Prior to her principalship, Carole has been a classroom teacher, a district staff developer, an assistant principal, and the director of a Queens UFT Teachers’ Center. A resident of Queens for her entire life, she and her husband Norman have three children Steven, Michelle, and Lauren who are all products of NYC public schools. This wonderful foundation MARIZEN BERNALES RN/CEO Atlantic Dialysis Marizen Bernales, RN, is the CEO/Administrator of Newtown Dialysis Center, an affiliate of Atlantic Dialysis Management Service. Ms. Bernales has over 20 years of clinical nursing background. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and has worked as a critical care nurse prior to her employment at Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens. In 1994, she joined Ridgewood Dialysis Center, now an ADMS affiliate, as a staff nurse. She held several positions, including HD and PD coordinator for the Home program and served the Brooklyn and Queens dialysis community for over 10 years. In 2004, she became the Administrator/CEO of Newtown Dialysis Center. She has served the Queens community with her exemplary dedication and compassion using her motto, “patient comes first.” She continued to lead the facility with a zero deficiency state surveys, for three consecutive surveys. Ms. Bernales, together with her staff, the ADMS Governing Body and fellow Administrators, in their quest to provide the best patient care, would continue to find ways to improve patients’ lives. Ms. Bernales is a member of the National Renal Administrators Association and ANNA, and she served as a member of NDC Governing Body and QAPI Committee. led each of her children to their first post-graduate careers in medicine, business, and law (respectively). In addition to her children and sons-in-law, Greg and Mike, and grand-dog Rocky, Carole is the proud grandmother of 15 year old Sydney, who she refers to as her ‘favorite granddaughter’ and is the newest light in her shining family. Carole’s extended family includes everyone who has ever been, and currently is, a part of her professional world and her school community. If you asked Carole what her greatest accomplishment is she would tell you, “It might not have happened yet. Every day is an opportunity to open up a world of learning to a child and create a life-long learner. It delights me to find new materials for the teachers and staff and nourish them with professional development. The best is still to come!” Principal, Public School 203
