FROM THE PUBLISHER
As a wife, mother of three boys (and a dog), and as someone who works full time, I consider
myself more of a professional juggler walking a tightrope. My life is a balancing act between
chaos and order which can be exhausting but also stimulating. I’m often asked where I got
my drive and my ambition. That’s an easy answer: my mother.

Publisher, Long Island Press
We moved every three years or so with my father’s job, bouncing between Texas and Philadelphia.
This forced my mother to find a new job and sometimes forge a new career path
nearly as frequently. My mother, with a brave face, taught my sister and I to see change as
an opportunity. She was a great role model for me growing up and still is to this day.
Consequently, I believe we are stronger together. When women (and men) support women,
amazing things can happen. I believe it is our responsibility to mentor the next generation
and support each other. Working together the possibilities are endless. Together we can
do more, go further, and change the world. And when we celebrate one another and our
accomplishments we all benefit.
With that in mind, in this edition of the Press, The Women’s Issue, you’ll find our special
section highlighting the 2019 Long Island Power Women in Business. We hope you’ll join
us for a night of networking and empowerment honoring these great women at 6 p.m. on
May 8 at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck.
Gracing this month’s cover is author, yoga studio owner, and mother of four Hilaria Baldwin, who owns a home in Amagansett
with her actor husband Alec Baldwin. She’s an aspirational example of a strong woman working to make the world a better place.
Also in this issue you’ll find an interview with GSE Dynamics President and CEO Anne D. Shybunko-Moore, who is a rarified
woman leading a locally based defense contractor. You’ll also learn how WellLife Network CEO Sherry Tucker turned
personal tragedy into a mission to help those struggling with mental health issues. And learn about legendary fashion icon
Liz Claiborne’s local ties.
In Press Buzz, our reporters preview all there is to do in downtown Bayville for this month’s Destinations column and Main
Dish dining section. And in The A List, we found 19 oceanfront restaurants on LI to try this summer.
As always, don’t forget to like Long Island Press on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and subscribe to our
twice-weekly email newsletters rounding up the latest from the updated-daily longislandpress.com
