United United Airlines CEO Scott
Kirby announced that all active employees
will receive a $1,000 bonus
on their paycheck. This is intended
to thank team members for their hard
work during the pandemic. Not only is
this an awesome gesture, but $1,000
will make a big difference for many
people, maybe not for a captain making
$300K per year, but for some employees
this could be a couple of
weeks worth of pay. United has over
80,000 employees, so that’s a minimum
of $80 million in bonus payments.
JetBlue at LGA
JetBlue will begin operating from
LaGuardia Terminal B, except for
flights to/from Boston that will remain
at Terminal A, Marine Air Terminal.
JetBlue’s split operation at LaGuardia
will continue until the airline fully
relocates to Terminal B in the future.
JetBlue’s expansion at LaGuardia
is a direct result of the NEA with American,
connecting JetBlue’s growing
network to American’s through codeshare
and reciprocal loyalty benefits.
NEA JetBlue/AA
Customers can now easily connect
from an American flight to a JetBlue
flight and vice versa through New York
(JFK) as the two airlines are now offering
codeshare connections to nearly
600 origin and destination markets.
Alitalia
Alitalia still flies. After Alitalia
stopped its flights out of the U.S. to
Italy on October 13, the new ITA resumed
flying on November 4th from
JFK to Rome.
Well sort of. The new airline will use
the name Alitalia for the time being. As
new cities are added to the ITA routes.
Code Overload
British Airways, American Airlines,
Finnair and Iberia have teamed
up across the Atlantic to make global
travel experience easier through using
any of the airlines websites for booking
flights, online check-in and to get
your boarding pass for any eligible
flight across the 4 airlines. Meanwhile
JetBlue and Iceland Air have coded
shared. Since AA and JetBlue have
code shared does this mean Iceland
Air is code shared with AA?
Cathay cargo strong
Cathay Pacific initiated financial
restructuring in October 2020. As a
result, its subsidiary Cathay Dragon
ceased operations. The airline also
laid off approximately 8,500 employees,
initiated a hiring freeze, cut executive
wages, and asked staff to take
part in two voluntary leave schemes.
According to Cathay Pacific, restructuring
saved the airline HK$500 million
($64 million) per month. While passenger
capacity remains low due to Chinese
pandemic restrictions, cargo remains
strong.
Airbus 380s
The A380 is resilient. Although Qatar’s
A380 is officially back in the skies
due to capacity challenges Emirates
and others pull the behemoth from the
routes due to fuel consumption using
newer relatively more fuel efficient
Boeing 777s and DreamLiners.
Lounge partners
United Airlines business class passengers
departing from New York JFK
can use the Alaska Lounge located in
Terminal 7. This is a noteworthy development,
since previously a United
business class ticket didn’t offer
lounge access at JFK, due to lack of
an agreement.
Aerolineas Argentinas
In November, Aerolíneas Argentinas
will add frequencies to ten destinations
throughout America. According
to a statement by the airline, it will
have more flights to Bogota, Lima,
Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago
de Chile, Montevideo, Punta del Este,
Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Miami, and
New York.
Virgin Atlantic’ “Booth”
Virgin has launched a social drinking
space named ‘The Booth’ on its
newest A350 aircraft. ‘The Booth’ will
be “a cozy corner, providing comfy
lounge style seating” and will feature
two 27” touch screen monitors, and
two Bluetooth audio jacks. A spokesperson
said, “We’re famous for our
on-board social spaces and the introduction
of The Booth elevates the customer
proposition for our leisure travellers
to new heights.”
Delta Air Lines rules
Delta announced new requirements
for employees, including rules on
masks, testing, and vaccines. Workers
can choose to get the vaccine or pay
a $200 surcharge for the company's
healthcare plan. This surcharge is fair,
Ed Bastian said, because the average
cost to Delta for an employee's COVID
19 hospital stay is $50,000.
Saudi Crowned Skyrax crowns

airline in 2021.The airline wins the
Skytrax award for the second time in
four years and continues its upward
trajectory SAUDIA moves up 26 spots;
a 55% improvement in its overall Skytrax
ranking of global airlines. This is
the second time that SAUDIA has won
this award since 2017.
Norse Atlantic Airways
Norwegian based Norse Airlines
will be using Stewart for their US
based flights towards the end of 2021.
Formerly Norwegian has used this airport
but they went bankrupt so Norse
will be serving some of the same markets
Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles and
New York being the three initial destination
cities in North America which
were all served by Norwegian.
Air France
Air France recently took delivery of
its first Airbus A220-300, for its medium
haul network. Since introducing
the Airbus A350 on its long-haul network,
the company is continuing its
fleet renewal and by 2025 will have integrated
the (60) A220-300s ordered
in 2019 to gradually replace its Airbus
A318s and A319s as well as several
Airbus A320s.
AFKLM SAF Air France KLM Martinair
Cargo (AFKLMP Cargo) and Total
Touch Cargo Holland BV (TTC)
entered into a partnership within the
framework of the airline´s sustainable
aviation fuel program. Under the
partnership, AFKLMP Cargo will use
sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on
selected cargo flights from Nairobi–
Kenya to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol,
carrying TTC´s fresh agricultural and
horticultural products.
Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic has announced a
partnership with fuel management software
firm i6 to help the airline to better
control its fuel costs. A digital refueling
process allows Virgin Atlantic’s pilots
to log exact refuel amounts for every
flight anywhere in the world. This provides
an accurate and real-time data
source that is fed into i6’s new commercial
fuel management software
platform called Synthesis6.The platform
can generate detailed insights on
fuel spending, such as costs per route,
allowing the airline to streamline financial
planning, tendering and invoicing.
ANA into Orbit ANA HOLDINGS,
owners of Japan’s largest airline, announced
that it has entered into a
“MOU” with Virgin Orbit, the responsive
launch and space solutions company
that has announced a planned
business combination with NextGen
Acquisition Corp. and plans to procure
