Flight Services has appointed
Paul Carmody as Managing Director
of its cargo operations in the United
Kingdom.
Paul was Head of UK Operations
for WFS in the UK prior to this promotion.
He has a wealth of experience
in the cargo handling industry,
also holding senior positions at Menzies
Aviation in Canada and the USA
prior to joining WFS in 2009.

Section 321: Entry Type 86
Deployment Date Set for September
28, 2019
On September 28, 2019, U.S. Customs
and Border Protection (CBP)
will deploy the new Entry Type 86 for
entry of Section 321 low-valued shipments
through ACE. This new entry
type will improve import safety and
security by providing greater visibility
into low value shipments. Please
note that this new entry type is a test
and is not mandatory for users.
Emirates SkyCargo, the freight
division of Emirates has securely
transported a large volume of temperature
sensitive pharmaceuticals
and perishables through Dubai to
other parts of its global network this
summer. In total, the air cargo carrier
moved over 150,000 tons of perishables
and 27,000 tons of pharmaceuticals
through Dubai between the
beginning of April and mid-August
2019. Since 2017, there has been an increase
of seven per cent in the volume
of pharma cargo transported during
the summer months and an increase
of 14 per cent in the overall volume
of pharmaceuticals transported
throughout the year. This summer
season alone, over 190,000 kilos of
pharma travelled every day through
Dubai on Emirates SkyCargo. These
include lifesaving vaccines, medication
for cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular
diseases that travel across
the world through Dubai to reach patients
in time for their treatment.
Menzies. Logistics company Menzies
Aviation has welcomed two new
members of staff to its team. Robert
Fordree is the organization’s new executive
vice president of cargo and
Chris Beale is re-joining the business
as vice president of cargo Europe.
Fordfree’s previous roles include senior
vice president commercial and
vice president of cargo development.
Fordree was previously a board
member of cargoiQ and is a current
member of IATA’s Cargo Handling
Consultative Council.
Beale initially joined the Menzies
cargo business during its inception
at London Heathrow, before moving
to the US where he held various
ground handling and cargo roles

within the company.
He then moved to the Middle
East where he held positions in
Abu Dhabi and latterly in Italy
for Etihad Airways before returning
to the UK to take up a role with
Worldwide Flight Services.
Brazilian airline Azul Cargo Express
has announced a new contract
and a new service catering for the ecommerce
market with Latin America’s
largest e-commerce firm, Mercado
Libre, to become the only air
carrier within Brazil for products
sold on the retailer’s website.
“We are very excited to have Mercado
Libre as our largest e-commerce
partner. When it comes to shipping,
customers want fast delivery and reliable
service, and this is what we do
best. We fly to more than 100 domestic
destinations, have 250 franchise
stores nationwide, and are able to
reach more than 3,500 municipalities
within 24 hours. Moreover, we are
the only airline in 72% of the routes
we serve. Our breadth of reach and
delivery speed is unique in the country,”
said John Rodgerson, Azul’s
chief executive.
China Airlines has signed off on
its order to buy six 777 Freighters
from Boeing.
China Airlines, which currently
operates one of the world’s largest
747 Freighter fleets, says it plans to
transition to the largest and longest
range twin-engine freighters in the
industry, as it launches operations
from Taipei to North America, a key
market that provides higher yields
for the carrier.
Valued at $2.1 billion the airline
had announced its intent to order
the planes at the Paris Air Show in
June. Three of the six 777 Freighter
orders were confirmed in July and
posted to Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries
website as an unidentified
customer. The 777 Freighter can fly
long-range trans-Pacific missions in
excess of 6,000 nautical miles with
20 percent more payload than other
large freighters like the 747-400F.
Etihad Cargo has appointed
Christel Alaimo has been appointed
as area manager – north America,
with immediate effect. Alaimo was
previously senior manager – airfreight
for the Americas, at Flexport
. Etihad spokesman said, As a strategic
addition to our US team, Alaimo
will significantly boost our Stateside
operation and had also held similar
senior roles for other international
carriers in the US.
Fuel costs did not spike as high as
anticipated following the attack on
Saudi oil facility. According to the
weekly IATA-Platts Jet Fuel Price Index,

Smith remarked that every time the
company adds a B767, and to a lesser
degree a B777, it is accretive to earnings
because reliability goes up and
costs are lowered.
Swissport is expanding its
Pharma footprint overseas. They are
investing in a new air cargo facility
at Brussels Airport partnering with
the airport. The new space will be approximately
75,000 sq.ft with temperature
controls of (+15° to +25°C) and
cooling area cooling facility (+2° to
+8°C) .According to Swissport, “Our
new warehouse and the state-of-theart
Swissport Pharma Center will be
the benchmark for modern and efficient
air cargo and pharma logistics.”
Expected completion is early
2021.
Broker Air Charter Service ,
“Now we are experiencing some calls
for helicopters to use in aerial surveillance,
as well as repatriation as
islanders return to their homes to
assess the damage left behind. Our
cargo division has also been busy,
having sent in medical supplies to the
region already and we are currently
receiving enquiries to fly in and further
supplies to the Bahamas, and
airline charity Airlink have taken
part in several flights in response to
Hurricane Dorian, which devastated
the Bahamas. Airlink began transporting
relief workers to Florida and
other east coast states prior to the
storm’s arrival in an effort to ensure
a swift response to communities in
need. Airlink is assisting more than
15 response partners, including Save
the Children, Empact Northwest,
Heart to Hear International and
World Central Kitchen.
