JFK AIRPORT REMEMBERS
The 3rd JFK Service solemnly honored lost families, friends and co-workers.
It was a beautiful day for a
somber remembrance of that
tragic day on September 11,
2001 when suicide planes destroyed
buildings and lives
at the World Trade Center.
The Port Authority and JFK
Chamber of Commerce held
the third annual 9-11 “JFK
Remembers” Memorial Service
at JFK Airport officiated
by General Manager Charles
Everett. Hundreds of airport
personnel, community members,
elected officials and
friends of those who died were
on hand to mark the anniversary.
Some of those closest
to the deceased still found it
hard to speak about their feelings
keeping thoughts silently
to themselves. Members from
all corners of the JFK community
gathered with honors
sung, music played, speeches
given all to instill love and
remembrance for all those no
longer with us; some who courageously
fought against the
terror in the sky giving their
last breaths to try to protect
others. As former Police officer
Dan said, “ The best of humanity
always shines through
in the darkest moments. It is
our full promise to never forget.”
Rabbi Korenblit of the
airport Chapels said “Buildings
may fall, but human beings
always stand tall.” The
names of those from our community
were recited as the
Memorial Bell was rung.
