Christ the King High School Celebrates
Dr. Martin Luther King’s Legacy
Joined by State Attorney General Letitia James
Christ the King High School hosted New York State Attorney General Letitia James at a special
assembly honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“We are pleased and honored to be joined by the Honorable Letitia James as we celebrate the
life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Serphin R. Maltese, Chairman of Christ the King High
School’s Board of Trustees. “As New York’s top law enforcement official, Attorney General
Letitia James is both the ‘People’s Lawyer’ and the State’s chief legal officer entrusted with
the responsibility of upholding the equal protections of all New Yorkers under the law.”
At the assembly, the Hon. Letitia James addressed the student body regarding the civil rights
legacy of Dr. King and his values of peaceful protest and equality for all.
Students also remembered Dr. King’s legacy by reading his “I Have a Dream” speech (read
by seniors Jarlyn Rodriguez and Darren Fuller), as well as by watching a speech made by Dr.
King to a Junior High School in Philadelphia in October, 1967.
Students were also treated to a musical performance to commemorate the occasion by the
CK Chorus featuring juniors Evenunye Afeto and Dante McDonald, led by CK Chorus Director,
Mrs. Heather Arzberger.

Fostering Academic Excellence and Faith Formation
Holy Trinity Catholic Academy
is a community of learners who
strive for academic excellence in a
faith-filled environment.
Our students are called not only
to listen to God’s word, but to also
recognize and serve the needs of
others. Our mission is to provide academic
instruction and faith formation
in an atmosphere of love, trust,
respect, and integrity. Holy Trinity’s
dedicated faculty and staff instill a
love of learning and create a learning
environment where students feel
validated.
Our rigorous curriculum has always
followed New York State and
diocesan standards, so our students
become proficient at problem-solving,
communicating in the English
language, understanding history
and its implications on the present,
and approaching science concepts
through hands-on experiences.
Through Catholic faith formation,
the Holy Trinity graduate is a person
who works for social justice, offers
service to others, and respects all
people. The aim of elementary school
should be to develop confidence, inquisitiveness,
and preparedness for
the challenges of higher education
and the job market.
By providing our students with
the most up-to-date educational resources
and technology, Holy Trinity
Catholic Academy achieves this
goal. Traditionally our students perform
better than NYC and NYS public
school students on the ELA and
math exams.
While we are very proud of this
achievement, we base our students’
success on much more than just testing.
The relationships they build,
their satisfaction with their work,
and the ability to respond creatively
to real-world situations all demonstrate
the growth of the whole child:
academically, spiritually, socially,
physically, and emotionally.

a Catholic school education at Holy
Trinity could be the right learning
environment for your child.
