Work hard and Serve the Lord Enthusiastically
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Academy, located in the vibrant
and culturally diverse neighborhood
in Astoria, N.Y., is proud to be
opening its doors to Learn, Serve,
Lead, and Succeed during this
2018-2019 academic year. SFACA is
deeply motivated to exist in a caring
community that is firmly committed
to its mission of developing a way of
life rooted in Christ and a Catholic
vision that provides inspiration and
identity to all its members. This desire
has led our academy partners
to choose and embrace our chosen
2018-2019 theme ~ to Work Hard and
Serve the Lord Enthusiastically.
Our academy goal of Success
For All inspires a curriculum that
supports students’ strengths and
helps them maximize their full potential.
By modeling and instilling
commitment, passion, and perseverance,
students are set for success.
Through progressive instructional
practices and a solid work ethic,
we support Carol Dweck’s idea of a
growth mindset that suggests children’s
basic intellectual abilities
can be developed through dedication,
commitment, and hard work.
Our rapidly changing world requires
students to be creative, innovative,
inventive, artistic, techsavvy,
and resourceful; therefore,
our academy programs are designed
to educate the whole child in academia,
STEM, and the arts.
The teachers and faculty at the
academy know that the spiritual,
emotional, and social well-being of
each child in our CARE is essential
to their growth and is, therefore, reflected
in every aspect of each child’s
educational journey at SFACA.
It is the mission of St. Francis
of Assisi Catholic Academy in Astoria
to model our Patron Saint as
we form, inform, and transform our
students in the Image of our Creator.
SFACA strives to reach each
student’s heart, so that their life and
the lives of all those they touch may
be better.

Since 1916, the Parishioners, Clergy
and Religious Sisters at Saint
Thomas the Apostle Church, Parochial
School and Catholic Academy,
have been motivated by the desire to
root our children in our Catholic Faith
as part of their earliest foundationbuilding
academic experience. For
generations, our Parish has seen our
work in education as a vital ministry
of the Parish, Community and World.
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic
Academy is determined by a firm belief
that every child can learn and fulfill
their potential. Rooted in our belief
that Christ is our center, we instill in
the students that God loves us, accepts
us always, and forgives completely.
As Christian educators, we commit
ourselves to live in the spirit of
the Gospel and create an environment
where students are inspired to
grow spiritually, morally, intellectually,
personally, and socially. The
school community of St. Thomas the
Apostle Catholic Academy encourages
equality and a belief in the dignity
of every person.
All of our efforts as Christian educators
are based on the conviction
that Christ is “the way, the truth, and
the life.” (John 14:6)
The Board of Directors and the
Board of Members, which guide the
Catholic Academy, together with the
Principal, teachers and Academy
Staff, look forward to providing a
quality private, Catholic education in
Woodhaven. We seek to continue our
100 years of education and service by
serving our community’s education
and formational needs.

acompany parents on the tour. Tours
