Passion for learning starts at Immaculate Conception
At Immaculate Conception
Catholic Academy in
Astoria, we’re empowering
and inspiring our students.
We have an exciting
Catholic Schools Week
line-up that includes daily
open houses from 8:30 to
10:30 am on Jan. 28 through
Feb. 1.
Our students will participate
in a Religion Bee,
our Annual Science Fair,
Pajama Day, a Scholastic
Book Fair, and Career Day,
before the week finally
culminates with an amazing
Multicultural Family
Night, which celebrates the
incredible diversity of our
school community.
Our dynamic new STEM
lab just opened this school
year, enabling students to
use cutting-edge equipment
to explore, problem-solve,
collaborate, build, create
and learn. The STEM lab is
just one more valuable resource
added to our many
opportunities for students
to excel academically and
socially.
The Stages on the Sound
Performing Arts Program
engages students’ creativity
and imagination. Students
learn to create stopmotion
animation films,
A DV E RTI S E M E NT
write their own plays, and
act out the works of William
Shakespeare.
Artistic talents are further
nourished through
our music program. Our
choir performs annually
at St. John’s Preparatory
School’s Spring Concert.
Piano and voice lessons are
available, and this year,
Paul Effman’s Band and
Violin Program was introduced
for after-school instruction.
The integration of
music, physical education,
Spanish, visual arts
and technology, specifically
SmartBoards, iPads,
Chromebooks, and Google
Classrooms, creates a cohesive
learning experience.
Our goal is to develop
and shape our students
into passionate, confident,
lifelong learners who have
competence, strength of
character and are prepared
to contribute to a diverse
and ever changing world.
Student and family engagement
is also important,
so our active Home
Academy Association
(HAA) has planned many
new activities and events
this year. We just held a
successful ninth Annual
Autumn Auction in October
and are planning ahead
for our Annual Walkathon
on May 3, 2019.
As our student population
continues to grow and
change, we remain committed
to maintaining a safe
and nurturing environment
and promoting intellectual
curiosity, personal
growth, and faith.
Educating students
since 1924, Immaculate
Conception School transitioned
to an Academy in
the fall of 2017. Our Academy
welcomes students of
all faiths and reflects the
rich diversity of our surrounding
community.
