College Point homeless
shelter plans surface
Councilman Paul Vallone revealed that the City and Department of Homeless
Services (DHS) had indeed submitted a proposal for the site at 127-03 20th Ave. to
be turned into a homeless shelter. Community members and local elected offi cials
are not in favor of the proposed homeless shelter.

Murder in the College Point
multiplex parking lot
A Brooklyn man was shot and killed while driving with his girlfriend in the parking
lot of the College Point multiplex. Police said that the murder occured aft er an argument
broke out at the Angels Strip Club shortly before. Aft er leaving the strip club, the
victim, Jaquan Campbell, was struck from behind by an unidentifi ed vehicle while in
the parking lot. Four masked men exited the car, confronted Campbell, and then shot
him.
Beloved LGBTQ icon Miss. Colombia dies
A Jackson heights resident and LGBTQ icon Miss. Colombia was found dead in
the water off of Jacob Riis Park in Park Rockaway early in October. Her neighbors
and friends in Jackson Heights held a vigil in her honor of the Queens treasure. Miss
Colombia was a colorful advocate of LGBTQ rights was accepting and loving of all.
She will be remembered for her kind spirit.
Local hip hop artist shot to death
outside of Woodhaven bar
In October, Woodhaven hip hop artist Hollywood Play was shot and killed outside
of the Tavern Lounge at 97-07 Jamaica Avenue. Th e artist, whose real name was Frank
Synder, an unidentifi ed shooter opened fi re from inside of a black, four-door sedan
nearby. Seconds later, the vehicle fl ed the scene in an unknown direction.
