 Eight students hailing from Bayside,
 Flushing, Fresh Meadows, Glendale and
 Jamaica are headed to elite service academies
 this summer.
 Congresswoman Grace Meng met with
 the students hailing from all areas of the
 6th District who were recently accepted
 into service academies throughout the
 country. Each student was nominated by
 Meng and met a variety of educational,
 physical and extracurricular standards set
 by each institution.
 The students are as follows:
 •	Acacia Chai, a Flushing resident at
 Francis Lewis High School, will attend
 the U.S. Military Academy at West
 Point;
 •	Thomas Knight, a Flushing resident at
 Xavier High School, will attend the U.S.
 Military Academy at West Point;
 •	Charles Lo, a Jamaica resident at
 Aviation High School, will attend the
 U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado
 Springs, Colorado;
 •	Allard Peng, a Flushing resident at
 Stuyvesant High School, will attend the
 U.S. Military Academy at West Point;
 •	Szymon Szabat, a Glendale resident at
 Aviation High School, will attend the
 U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado
 Springs, Colorado;
 •	Kelly White, a Bayside resident at
 Bayside High School, will attend the U.S.
 Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland;
 •	Crystal Zhang, a Fresh Meadows resident
 at Francis Lewis High School, will
 attend the U.S. Military Academy at
 West Point; and
 •	Evan Zhang, a Flushing resident at
 Mercersburg  Academy  in  PA,  will
 attend the U.S. Military Academy at
 West Point.
 The academies will prepare the college
 aged Americans to be officers of the
 U.S. uniformed services. Upon graduation,
  they will become commissioned as
 officers in the active or reserve components
 of the U.S. military or merchant
 marine for a minimum of five years.
 “Each year, I have the honor of nominating
 local students for our nation’s
 prestigious  service  academies  and  I’m
 proud to congratulate this year’s group
 of young men and women,” Meng said.
 “All are extraordinary individuals who
 seek to become future military leaders of
 our nation. I know they’ll make our borough
 and nation proud and I thank each
 of them for their commitment to serve
 our country. I wish them the very best
 for success.”
 On June 18, Meng hosted a reception for
 each student and his or her family at the
 representative’s Flushing office. Each student
 was also presented with Certificates
 of Congressional Recognition.
 Those high school students interested
 in attending U.S. Service Academies can
 attend an upcoming information night
 sponsored by Meng. Details on the day
 and location of the event are forthcoming.
