Queens Caff eine, Part 3
Visit the classic third-wave Astoria Coff ee
BY LIZZ SCHUMER
Freelancers and coff ee addicts alike
know the importance of a good coff ee
shop. Th e best ones come with a perfect
balance of high-quality brew, something
to nosh on and a comfortable, welcoming
place to enjoy them. With the continued
popularity of third-wave coff ee —
that is, those who consider coff ee an art
in itself — Astoria residents have a range
of excellent options. I packed up my laptop,
threw on my best beanie, and set off
to raise my blood-caff eine levels in some
of the most unique environs Astoria has
to off er.
Astoria Coff ee
30-04 30th St., Astoria
www.astoriacoff eeny.com
Astoria Coff ee started as a whole-bean
delivery service that transitioned into a
gathering place to geek out about coffee.
Th e sun-drenched space features
the de rigeur blonde wood, white brick
walls and metal stools, but Astoria Coff ee
brightens things up by painting those
stools a sunny yellow and accenting the
space with local art. Th e space isn’t large,
but high ceilings make it feel airy and
unfailingly friendly service welcomes
each and every patron.
Serving a rotating cast of roasters, this
place caters to coff ee nerds. Check back
regularly for new arrivals, or take home
a bag of beans. While food is limited to
a small case of sweet and savory baked
goods, what it does off er stands up well.
And if you’re the type who likes to wear
her heart on her sleeve, Astoria Coff ee
also off ers swag that proclaims your love
of your borough and bean, all in one.
