That is where the Ridgewood Property Owners and Civic Association (RPOCA) comes in. Founded in November of 1931, RPOCA deals with quality of life issues, environmental issues, landmarking and other civic issues related to property owners across Ridgewood. “We’re here to help maintain and improve the quality of life of all residents of Ridgewood, particularly the property owners,” said Paul Kerzner, president of RPOCA. “We do a lot more civic work with community. We help with parks projects, we help tenants with unscrupulous landlords and we are working with the Transit Authority to help with off-street parking.” For almost 85 years RPOCA has been a family membership organization that is open to anybody that owns property in Ridgewood. There are currently over 400 members in RPOCA, with some families from the original founding still involved, Kerzner said. “Anybody who owns property is eligible to join. They just have to submit an application, which is reviewed to see if that property is kept in good condition,” Kerzner explained. “Longstanding tenants that would like to get involved in the community are eligible as well. If a landlord wants to sponsor tenant to represent the property, there is a mechanism to do that too.” The group meets 10 times a year, between September and June, with most meetings taking place at the Ridgewood Older Adult Center. Anyone interested in fi lling out an application can visit the RPOCA website.
