FRANCIS PREP SHARES THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT WITH A CLASSIC TALE, A TREE LIGHTING, AND (AS ALWAYS) PLENTY OF WAYS TO HELP OTHERS! The St. Francis Prep Alvernian Drama Society’s production of A Christmas Carol, adapted by Charles Ludlam, and under the Direction of Donna Mejia will be delighting audiences on Friday, December 4th at 8pm, and Saturday, December 5th at 7pm in Prep’s Brother Ralph Clifford Memorial Auditorium. Prep students will be joined by elementary school children who participated in Prep’s Summer Academy Musical Theatre program. They will perform in the prologue and closing street scenes, and are thrilled and excited to be a part of a high school play! This production will add a new element of creativity by replacing painted backdrops with technology to create the environment of the play. Moving images on a projected screen built by Prep alum Alex Santullo, and Kenneth “Chaz” Eng, former Producer of legendary rock concerts by Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull. The moving images were created by Prep alumna, and current Art teacher, Kathleen Schnurr, along with her computer graphics students. The Alvernian Drama Society is also joining with Prep’s Campus Ministry program, under the Direction of Dr. Christian Sullivan, to help students from Public School 65, The Mother Hale Academy in the South Bronx. For the last four years, Prep has been helping Prep Parent, Mr. Jeff Adler who works at P.S. 65, with a Christmas Toy Drive. Most, if not all, of the P.S. 65 students come from families that live at or below the federal poverty line. Students involved in both Prep’s Alvernian Drama Society and National Honor Society will be bringing in gifts for Grades 2-5 (approximately 300 students). At both nights of A Christmas Carol, adapted by Charles Ludlam, raf e items and snacks will be provided before and during intermission. Money raised will help offset the cost of Prep’s Alvernian Drama Society Dancers, who have been chosen to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2016. In addition to the performances, Prep will hold its annual Christmas Tree lighting in the school library, on opening night, Friday, December 4th. There will be hot chocolate, cookies, crafts, and even a reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The library will be decorated for the event, and there will even be a visit by Santa Claus! In addition to all this, and in keeping with the Franciscan Mission of the school, there will be a Toy Drive for Toys for Tots. Please join us in the retelling of the Holiday Classic Tale of A Christmas Carol adapted by Charles Ludlam. Again, Friday, December 4th at 8PM (Christmas Tree Lighting at 7PM) and Saturday, December 5th at 7PM in Prep’s Ralph Clifford Auditorium, 6100 Francis Lewis Boulevard in Fresh Meadows, Queens. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and are available at the door.
