Her awareness of long-term care name after she experienced fi rsthand the fi nancial and emotional impact that families live through during the illness of her father. In need for continual care, her father was placed in a nursing home. Malise now specializes in long-term care insurance. She is an active member of organizations such as the Franklin Square chamber, Zonta International, and the South Shore Child Guidance Center. She also participates in community events and fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association. Malise is an independent agent of Genworth Life Insurance Company of New York and Genworth Life Insurance Company and is licensed and appointed to sell long-term care insurance in New York, Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennysylvania. SUSAN SAMUEL Founder It Takes A Community To Raise A Child Susan Samuel is a true leader in delivering innovative, fl exible child-care solutions that allow parents to customize their child-care schedule and puts the well being of children fi rst. It took 16 years of planning to open her dream community service non-profi t organization, “It Takes A Community To Raise A Child” in South Ozone Park. It is home of the “Dream Catcher’s” Youth Business Program where children learn fi nancial literacy and entrepreneurship. “It Takes a Community To Raise A Child” (ITAC) also partnered with welfare to work by opening the doors and allowing participants to obtain work experience at the learning center. ITAC also collaborates with Easter Seals by providing training and internships for the elder population. Since 1989, Samuel has prepared for opening her very own education program, fi rst as a para-professional, family worker with the School Based Support Team (SBST), Sapis worker (School drug counselor), public school teacher, day care director, and fi nally an assistant principal. Along the way she became certifi ed as a state school administrator and supervisor with fi ve licenses. She also holds a permanent certifi cation in Early Intervention from the Department Of Health, a permanent license in Special Education, a NYS permanent license in Common Branches (pre-k, kindergarten and grades 1-6), is a NYS certifi ed health and safety trainer, and is a Workshop and Business Opportunity graduate (WIBO). Samuel is also an educational therapist/evaluator for Susan Samuel Consulting Inc. She works as a special education consultant working with children that are born prematurely and/or diagnosed with a learning disability. Additionally, she is very active in her professional and local communities. Samuel is the co-chair of the education sub-committee in conjunction with The Greater Allen AME Cathedral and the Jamaica Community Partnership Project (JCPP) that deals with foster care issues within the community, and a member of ACQC/ HIV awareness network of Queens. In April 2011, Samuel made history by organizing the fi rst Queens Chapter of National Action Network. TARYN SACRAMONE Executive Director Astoria Performing Arts Center Taryn Sacramone has been the executive director at the Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC), a non-profi t theater in Queens, since 2005. In that time, APAC has received 21 New York Innovative Theatre Award nominations and four wins, as well as the Caffé Cino Fellowship, an honor given to an Off Off Broadway theater that produces outstanding work. Under Sacramone’s leadership, APAC’s budget increased fourfold and its community programming for children and senior citizens expanded. In 2012, she was honored by Assemblymember Aravella Simotas and Congressmember Carolyn Maloney as part of Women’s History Month. Sacramone graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Kenyon College with a BA in political science. She also studied abroad at Oxford University. From 2002-2010, she worked at the Social Science Research Council. In April, Sacramone was appointed as a member of Queens Community Board 1. She lives in Queens with her husband Domenico and their son Rocco. ANDREA KORAHAIS Vice President and Controller First Central Savings Bank Andrea Korahais is the Vice President and Controller of First Central Savings Bank (FCSB). She began her banking career in 1995 and joined FCSB in August of 2000, shortly after the bank’s opening. As a result of her hard work and dedication, she quickly grew within the company and is an integral part of its management team. Along with managing the daily operations of the accounting department, she provides an effective support to her staff and is a vital liaison between key departments in the organization. She has always been instrumental in initiating change, growth and progress at the bank. Korahais supports several community-based organizations through FCSB, as well as contributes to some others during her free time. Born and raised in Queens, Korahais earned her bachelors of arts degree in accounting from Queens College and resides with her husband in Bayside.
